Gee has entered the "why" phase, closely related to the "what is" phase. We walked past a large Synagogue on our way to the library a few days ago.
"What is that building?" he asked me.
"It's a temple."
"What's a temple?"
"It's where Jewish people talk to God."
"What's God?"
Wince. "I don't know for sure. People think different things. I think it's a very powerful force for order instead of chaos."
He watched me so carefully.
"What do you think God is?" I asked him.
"The stars." He told me casually.
"That's a good thought. And the movement between the stars, our whole universe exists based on movement and force and energy. What else do you think God is?"
"The waves."
The stars and the waves. Powerful forces, elegantly ordered, on earth and in the heavens. Huh. Kind of blows my theories out of the water.
